Mixed Experience

- Peanuts
- Tree nuts
We emailed ahead re my daughter’s allergies and were assured that we could use the allergy filter and the waitress/waiter would check with the kitchen, to double check everything/take precautions.
When we arrived it wasn’t mentioned (which is sometimes the case, so not really concerned). We told the waiter re allergies who immediately said a manager would need to take the order (which is reassuring).
The manager came across and this is where it wasn’t so great - they asked how severe the allergy was and started to lose our confidence by saying they couldn’t guarantee the food would be entirely free of nuts etc etc. They did however work through the allergy menu and go and ask the chef, which reassured us. The starter and main course came out specifically for my daughter, which was great and the food was lovely.
We don’t usually have puddings, but the allergy menu mentioned that the choc cake was safe and the manager said it was fine. Another manager then appeared to say the chef had said the choc cake was not suitable, so went back and said we could have a Crème Brule, which was fine. Meanwhile the other manager delivered the choc cake (which we politely declined). I would also add that the ice cream that it was stated was fine, I looked up and said may contain peanuts (I guess it was marked up as doesn’t contain, but not marked may contain).
As I said it was a mixed experience, pre-booking all good, during the meal it made us all feel pretty anxious as there wasn’t a confident/clear approach throughout (for me Nando’s most recently was a really good example of how it should be handled/communicated).
